How to find a job and get hired as a Corporate Flight Attendant! Part 2 of 3.
Let’s be totally honest with you, it isn’t easy.. But if it was, everyone would be doing it and you’d have even more of a challenge standing out.
Finding these jobs can be incredibly hard, because where do you look and how do you find one where you live or at least nearby. Our best recommendation is to start with LinkedIn. Set up a professional profile and befriend corporate flight attendants and pilots in your proximity. Write them a message introducing yourself, don’t be too pushy as first, but just a friendly message explaining that you are just starting out and if they know anything about possible openings for people like you. You might get an answer, you might not – What have you got to lose?
Second option sounds ultra old fashioned, but I am telling you it’s effective and because so many people these days are scared to death of face to face interaction, they won’t do it – Get your CV printed, put on a smart casual outfit (not business suit) and go knock on the door at as many of your local private jet operators as you can find. Hundreds of flight attendants send out blind CV’s with cover letters, but nothing shows character like someone with the courage to turn up in person. It shows you actually want this, that you’re able to hold a conversation which is often an underestimated part of being a corporate flight attendant. THAT person, is the one I’d hire every time over the great looking, well written cover letter and CV person.
Third option, trawl the internet looking for recruitment agencies. Google job listings, apply online via the bigger companies portals like VistaJet, NetJets, FlexJet and so on. Getting a job with one of the bigger companies might not give you the freedom and the longer stays in an exotic location (read they’ll work you harder), but they give you great training and you will learn how to do the job in no time.
Finally the magic word of wisdom is – PERSISTENCE! To the point of almost becoming annoying.. Like we said at the beginning, if this was easy everyone would be doing it. Don’t get put off by not hearing anything back from a meeting or not getting the job. Keep improving your skills, do relevant courses and keep pushing. Even experienced flight attendants take months to find the right connection after having had breaks. Don’t give up.
And of course if you want to do well in your new role and have a little help remembering everything, we’d love you to try The Corporate Flight Attendant’s Handbook and Checklist. We love our little creation and pretty sure you will too 😊
